About this service
The Community Connections Volunteer Program (CCVP) connects newcomers with the community through networking and other activities that support cross-cultural awareness and informal language learning. By matching singles or families with volunteers, newcomers receive welcome support during initial adjustment to their new life in Canada. Opportunities are open for newcomers as well as new volunteers. All new volunteers are required to complete a screening and orientation process. CCVP matches connect two or more people in order to initiate networking and mentoring activities. Volunteers are matched with newcomers and newcomer families to offer one-on-one support . Matching activities have been shown to support the two-way street of integration by fostering intercultural awareness and acceptance, and supporting volunteer to better understand the contributions of immigrants and the challenges they face in Canada.
