Vocational Assessment and Action Plan Development

Vocational Assessment and Action Plan Development refers to a comprehensive and individualized service offered by vocational rehabilitation programs. This process identifies primary and secondary disabilities, health issues, and potential barriers to employment, asking how these might impact the client's ability to find or maintain work. A vocational assessment is completed following the acceptance of a client into these services. It includes details about their employment history, skills, motivations, therapies, and barriers faced in job searching. The assessment also includes psycho-social components such as the client's social circumstances, legal background, and family issues,among others. Information from the assessment is used to develop a tailored action plan, including identifying suitable job targets and vocational goals. As part of the rehabilitation process, clients may also receive job search training, including assistance with resumes and interviews. They may be placed in a work experience program or facilitated to upgrade their education. If eligible, clients may access funding for short-course skill development or wage subsidy for employers. Additionally, if they are unable to complete the program due to deteriorating health, they may be referred to other relevant services.
