About this service
Period poverty is defined as the inadequate access to menstrual hygiene tools and education, including sanitary products and cleaning facilities (American Medical Women's Association). Period poverty is a widespread issue that affects homeless women without a stable and consistent place to live. The average female experiences more than 2,200 days of menstruation during their lifetime and spends $13.25 each month on menstrual products, which adds up to a lifetime total of nearly $6,000. These astronomical costs force many low-income and marginalized women to choose between purchasing food or a place to sleep and monthly hygiene products. With this project, our goal is to provide dignity and access to safe and hygienic menstrual products for low-income and marginalized women.
