About this service
The Grande Prairie PCN - Diabetic Retinopathy Screening Clinic is a tele-ophthalmology program provided by the PCN to screen diabetes patients for retinopathy, a potential complication that could lead to blindness. The service is available at no charge to patients. A trained nurse performs eye tests and takes photos, which are then securely sent to a team of ophthalmologists at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Edmonton. Two pupil dilation drops, Mydfrin and Mydriacyl, are used to take photos of the patient's' eyes. These drops may cause temporary side effects that can last up to six hours. Appointments can be booked online or by phone.
