About this service

Critter Connections is a program aimed at children and youth that encourages the development of literacy skills through interaction with animals. Participants are paired with animals ranging from ponies to guinea pigs and improve their reading skills by reading to their animal partner. The program also includes literacy games focusing on various aspects of language development. Each session culminates in the participants writing a story about their animal partner. The program is sponsored in part by the Peace Area Riding for the Disabled Society and has online registration.
