BGC Fort Saskatchewan - Mentoring Programs

BGC Fort Saskatchewan believes that mentors play a crucial role in positive child development. Our mentoring programs match caring adult volunteers with children and youth in the community. Mentoring has many benefits to youth, including: improved self-esteem improved leadership skills improved connection to the community and school We offer programs specific to mentoring. Our In-School Mentoring program matches adults to children and youth through school or parent and guardian referral. Volunteers commit one hour per week during school hours to mentor within the school. Our community based Be a Buddy program works to provide adult role models to children and youth during the evenings and weekends within the community setting. Our volunteer process, which aligns to Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada national standards, includes an application, screening interview, and requires all volunteers to submit a Child Intervention and RCMP record check. Once and applicant is screened, volunteers complete an interest inventory for matching purposes, and attend volunteer training, which includes policies on our mentoring programs, as well as techniques and strategies for engaging children and youth.
