Why is our shelter going pet friendly?
56% of women seeking refuge in womens shelters reported that their abuser had threatened or had harmed their pet. At Crossroads we are receiving more and more calls from women fleeing domestic violence who are wanting to bring their animals with them.
What are we doing now while we are in the process of becoming pet friendly?
Currently, for the animals that women are bringing to the shelter, we are trying to place them in the local community. We have a partnership with a local kennels and we are building a network of pet foster families.
