About this service
The Early Intervention Counseling Program offers supportive counselling to Aboriginal families who are considered at risk of Children's Services involvement or who have recently had their file closed. The program provides individual and family counselling with the focus being on parenting skill development. The purpose of this program is to assist parents in increasing their knowledge of effective parenting interventions aimed at decreasing risk of abuse, neglect and family disintegration. Parenting issues are addressed on an individual basis and focus specifically on the unique situations within the family circle.
The program seeks to address the underlying issues which have become barriers for parents and prevent them from addressing the needs of their children. Parents process personal issues such as their own abuse, residential school involvement, child intervention services history and/or substance abuse issues.
