Siksika Children's Services - Private Guardianship

At Siksika Childrens Services, we believe that every child deserves to grow up in a loving, stable and permanent home.

Private Guardianship is an alternative to adoption used by Siksika Childrens Services to provide this for Siksika children.

Any adult who has been taking continuous care of a child can apply to become a permanent guardian. If the child has been under the care of Siksika Childrens Services due to a Permanent Guardianship Order, we are here to support you when making an application.

If you are interested in applying for Private Guardianship you can contact the childs care worker, and they will help to guide you through all of the necessary steps.

How does the court decide on Private Guardianship applications?

The court bases their decision on the following factors:

• in the best interest of the child
• the child is 12 years of age or older and consents to the guardianship
• if the parents of the child have given proper consents
