About this service
This program provides interpretation and translation training and related work experience to CIWA volunteers.
Project Details
- Interpreter preparation and training by a qualified Instructor
- Presentations from industry experts in education, legal service, health services, family services and private industry
- Cultural Interpreter Language Interpretation Skills Assessment Test (CILISAT) preparation classes to increase employability
- Preparation for Interpretation and Translation Clinics at CIWA and community organizations
- Provide employment support and related workshops
- Computer training in Microsoft Office applications
Eligible Clients
- Project participants must be registered as CIWA volunteers
- Must be a Canadian Permanent Resident
- Minimum CLB 7 in all strands
- Provide proof of proficiency in a second language
- Able to commit to a 5 month full-time training program followed by interpretation and translation assignments
- Demonstrate interest in and commitment to becoming a certified Community Interpreter
