About this service
Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse is the only sexual assault centre in Calgary and surrounding areas that offers specialized counselling and support for male survivors of sexual violence.
Male sexual assault has historically been shrouded in secrecy and stigma and as a group, male survivors report a lack of recovery services and support.
Consequently most men who experience sexual assault or have experienced child sexual abuse choose never to reveal it, even to people they know and trust. They fear being disbelieved, ridiculed, shamed, and accused of weakness, ignored or, in the case of heterosexual men, being perceived as gay. Male survivors often fear being blamed for their own attack because they were not able to protect themselves or prevent it from happening.
Calgary Communities Against Sexual Abuse offers both individual counselling for male sexual violence survivors as well as male group counselling.
