Respite

Respite Children and Adults BHSSA provides respite services to the community at large by providing supports to children and adults with disabilities so that the primary caregivers can themselves take a temporary break from providing care. Respite supports from BHSSA are flexible both in their timing and location so as to make it easy for the caregivers to take advantage of these supports. Our supports improve the quality of life for these families by providing trained staff to support the individual for a period of time so that the caregivers can have peace of mind that the child/adult will be well taken care of. This allows them to be alone and regroup without the demands of a child/adult with high needs for a few hours, overnight, or for a weekend. As a result the caregivers gain balance in their lives and are therefore better equipped to provide for the future care of their high needs child/adult. The individuals also are exposed to a variety of different people and situations and this often improves their social skills and broadens their horizons, improving their ability to make friends and live a more fulfilling life
