Relaxation Massage
A smooth, slow, flowing style of massage using oil or lotion. Often either the upper, lower or entire body is massaged. Relaxation massage activates the parasympathetic side of the nervous system and releases postural muscles naturally, bringing you back into your body and out of fight/flight/freeze (sympathetic) mode. The goal is to relax, restore and rejuvenate you at a massage depth that doesnt cause discomfort.
Therapeutic Massage
Usually addresses one or two key areas of the body using a variety of techniques to achieve a specific result related to treating/preventing an injury or condition. While sometimes deeper techniques are used, it is not necessarily a deep tissue massage. The therapist will determine what structures are causing compression or misalignment and proceed with the appropriate technique to restore balance and function.
