The Benedictines of Nanaimo (House of Bread Monastery)

The Benedictine Sisters of the House of Bread Monastery witness to a viable monastic life balancing personal and corporate prayer with Christian ministry. From our Benedictine monastery, situated on Westwood Lake, we share our spirituality with those who live on Vancouver Island and beyond.

Growing, changing, struggling, daring...we share in Christian Community with friends, Oblates and Associates. Through prayer and dialogue we witness to ecumenical hospitality knowing that we often learn most from those we seek to serve. Our intent is to live a viable monastic life and to be a Benedictine presence among the people on Vancouver Island. Each sister of the House of Bread offers a unique expression of that presence in her personal life. Our Benedictine spirituality calls us live the paschal mystery,to open ourselves to growth and change. We need the support of community and the challenge, wisdom and humor of each other to deepen our faith and to grow in respect and love for self, others,our environment, and for the God who loves us with an everlasting love.
